Our Story
The Saddlebrooke Variety Show is an entertaining bi-annual event which showcases the performing arts talents of SaddleBrooke residents.
The 2027 Variety Show, scheduled for performances in March 2027, is titled American Bandstand Rewind, A Salute to Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.
The 2025 Variety Show was titled A Seventies Shindig, a medley of billboard songs, dances, and humor from the 1970s. Our singers paid tribute to Billboard hits like John Lennon's "Imagine," Carly Simon's "You're So Vain," John Denver's "Sunshine on My Shoulder," Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou," and many more. We swayed in our seats to the uptempo, groovy dances of "Boogie Shoes" by KC and the Sunshine Boys, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," from Queen, "September" by Earth Wind and Fire, among others. And we also did tributes to the two blockbuster hits of the decade - "The Godfather" and "Star Wars," plus the breakout sketch comedy shows Laugh-In and Saturday Night Live.
The title of the 2023 show was Pages from the Great American Songbook, a selection of song, dance, instrumentals, and skit numbers from 1930 to 1960.
Among the most beloved, influential, and enduring American popular songs and jazz standards, this music was created during the twentieth century
by commercial composers and lyricists working on Tin Pan Alley and Broadway, on the radio, and in Hollywood. Reinterpreted by artists over the decades,
they included such songs as "Ain’t Misbehavin’," "Blue Moon," "Georgia on My Mind," and "The Man I Love."
Starting with the 2023 Variety Show, the numbers have been preselected and arranged by the artistic director, Gail Nelli.
A former high school and community theatre director and theatre teacher, Gail has appeared in Variety Shows since 2008 and is an instructor in the
Saddlebrooke ILR (Institute for Learning in Retirement).
Some of you may have taken her courses on musical theatre, her area of expertise.
